About the artist

BLOCK 513

The French artist Block513, lives between Paris, Brittany and London.

The starting point of his plastic and pictorial work, he finds it by his research around his "worms".

Coming from Celtic and Scandinavian cultures such as Korrigans, Elves and Trolls, the "Worms" of Block513 form a graphic universe populated by small funny and mischievous characters. half-human and half-animal, some have only one head, others have only one arm ended by an arrow. These small fantastic and supernatural beings come from nowhere, from the sky, from the earth and are often accompanied by flowers and objects diverted from everyday life.

This world is wonderful, simple and joyful, as in a waking dream. Young and old alike can find their way around in a quirky spirit, which helps to play down the situation for everyone.

From his small fantastic and supernatural beings, the artist proposes an original graphics. Through his approach and expression of the line, the rhythm of the stroke, he codifies a new form of writing. He searches for the border between the legible and the illegible, methodically pursuing his work towards abstraction and minimalism.

He is particularly attracted to the idea of creating a pictorial language, which is a balance between form, act and intention. Play of infinite variations of graffiti art with the different movements of abstract art and geometry of curves.

Today, "Worms" are invading our daily lives. Block513 likes to intervene as well in outside as in inside by murals, paintings as well as on objects: skateboard, sneakers, potteries, jerricans, .... Everyday objects that he rehabilitates in the form of sculpture so that they become works of art and find their place in the collective memory "Sustainable Pop Art". Draughtsman and painter Block513 has notably created a series of works on banknotes entitled "Art is Money / Money is Art".

Listed by Artprice, his works are present in numerous collections in France and abroad.
