Born into a family of gallery owners who passed on the culture and codes of classical art to her, Carol Descordes became assistant in the studio of food photographer Jean-François Hamon.
In 1998, she created her own photography and graphic design studio “Studio28” and continued her collaboration with various magazines (seasonal cuisine, gourmet cuisine), but also with major brands and advertising agencies.
In 2008 she moved to the Perche hills on the edge of the forest and developed an important photographic work, with forest as central theme. These works were published in various magazines as well as in exhibitions.
In 2013, she met antiquarian Sylvain Chériau and started to combine his knowledge of classical art with her practice of studio photography to make a new series of photographs on the theme of still lifes very inspired by old painters.
Carol Descordes revisits still life. This theme is intrinsically linked to the old masters and their workshops whether they are the proponents of archaic still life such as the Spaniards, or those of the vanities that are the sublime Flemings, authors of countless tables and bouquets with sophisticated compositions, encoded by the symbols of our earthly vanity.
Studio photographer Carol Descordes has this know-how to match the light and the accuracy of tones that emanate from objects. As heiress great antique dealers, she knows all the secrets of compositions. She enjoys traveling through the ages and particularly appreciates the art of Chardin, from which she draws inspiration with accuracy and gentleness. For some time now, she gets closer to moderns paying homage to Morandi.
