About the artist

Carol Descordes
Born into a family of gallery owners who passed on to her the culture and codes of classical art, Carol Descordes became an assistant in the studio of culinary photographer Jean-François Hamon.
In 1998, she set up her own photography and graphic design studio, "Studio28", and continued to work with various magazines (cuisine de saison, cuisine gourmande), as well as with major retailers and advertising agencies.
In 2008, she settled in the Perche hills on the edge of the forest, and developed a major body of photographic work whose central theme is the forest. This research has led to the publication of a number of books and exhibitions.
In 2013, her encounter with antique dealer Sylvain Chériau gave her the opportunity to combine her knowledge of classical art with her studio photography to begin a new series of photographs on the theme of still lifes, inspired by ancient painters.
Carol Descordes revisits a pictorial genre, that of the still life. This theme is intrinsically linked to the old masters and their workshops, whether they be the proponents of archaic still life, such as the Spaniards, or those of the vanitas, such as the sublime Flemish, authors of innumerable tables and bouquets with sophisticated compositions, encoded by the symbols of our earthly vanity.
A studio photographer, Carol Descordes has the know-how to match the light and tone accuracy emanating from objects. As heiress great antique dealers, she knows all the secrets of compositions. She enjoys traveling through the ages and particularly appreciates the art of Chardin, from which she draws inspiration with accuracy and gentleness. For some time now, she gets closer to moderns paying homage to Morandi.
