About the artist

Antonine de Saint Pierre
Antonine de Saint Pierre, born in 1974 in the Paris region, where she lives and works, makes no secret of her admiration for the work of artists from the 1950s and 1960s, which guides and inspires her in her large-scale steel sculptures. This connection is evident: the clean, graphic lines of her cut-out silhouettes directly recall Picasso’s sheet-metal sculptures, while the poise of the colorful figures perched on slender legs evokes Calder’s “Stabiles.”
Each figure is based on a constant interplay between curves and sharp angles. The figures are composed of full, rounded forms: rounded hips and busts, oval heads that stand out against slender legs and pointed feet, creating a sense of dynamism and figures that seem almost to be dancing. The cutouts form a sequence of solid and empty spaces.
Originally created for her own home, Antonine de Saint Pierre’s sculptures and bas-reliefs were soon noticed by gallery owners and antique dealers, who asked her to create more to display.
The artist has come into her own, producing elegant work that reinterprets a vision of femininity and embracing her own distinctive style of metal-cut sculpture, gradually distancing herself from the artists who shaped her and influenced her early work. Vibrant, cheerful colors are at the heart of Antonine’s work: deep blue, scarlet red, and bright orange are applied in saturated blocks reminiscent of Pop Art. She sculpts small and medium-sized pieces for interiors and larger pieces for exteriors.
