Mr Cute

The urgency to live before the game over

Mr Cute is a duo of French visual artists. Formerly from Rennes, brothers in life, they develop a work with four hands that is part of the energy of pop art and street art scene. The detection of an orphan disease in one of the two artists marks a decisive turning point in their lives. They decide to orient their creation around “living fully and without regret” with an even crazier ardor at forty than at twenty. Revisiting the figures that have marked a whole generation, the two artists imagine what the art of each era can say about our relationship with the passing of time.

Through the collection of giant slides, Mr Cute remembers the time of happiness. Memories are often more beautiful, more intense, than they were in real life. Especially those of childhood, which have a special flavor, between wonder and nostalgia. As we grow up, our view of life changes, and our references, our heroes of yesterday, appear to us in a new light. What if they lived in today’s society? Would we look at them in the same way? Would they leave the same impression on us?

With the magazine covers, the two brothers apply the concept of uchrony and change the course of history to imagine what it could have been. Through parodies and fictitious events, their obsession with fiction is found throughout their work, in the tradition of the Warhols, Bansky, Shepard Obey Fairey, etc…

There is no time to lose in bringing value to the world. Non-consensual, different, colourful characters who, each in their own field, with their own style, represent sources of inspiration, an incentive to be oneself, in all its entirety, without fear of displeasing.
