YBA aka Yoann Bonneville is an urban artist portraying diversity.
With his eye-catching looks, YBA (2000) renews portraiture, tracing the faces of diversity, a message of emotional unity. Attracted to the urban arts from an early age, this young man from Nantes experimented with different techniques, going so far as to create his own working tools.
YBA paints portraits using spray paint and collage to create emotionally-charged works.
From face to face, YBA’s canvases captivate as much by the mastery of technique as by the brilliance of the subject. He uses acrylic, aerosol and superimposed collages, seeking to decipher our emotions, our views, our freedom, our times and our society. Portraiture is a natural part of YBA’s approach, questioning our humanity with ardor and accuracy behind the purely aesthetic beauty of faces and the strong emotions that flow from them. YBA superimposes techniques whose sole motivation is to make us forget them. “My faces, fragmented, inlaid, worn, built around the three letters Y, B and A, composed of my signature and my artist’s name YBA, represent the DNA of my art”(…) are quite simply human beings at the heart of this whirlwind that sweeps us along and is called life. “Yoann Bonneville’s paintings focus on the faces of human diversity; through intense gazes, he immortalizes the times in which he lives, the world around us, the street and the people who inspire him.
