Mirror of the soul
Enigmatic young girls emerge from Laurence Chouzenoux's canvases. Stylized faces,
big black eyes, pink cheekbones, each one opens the door to a world of candor and
mysteries. I paint beauty," explains the artist. But it's not just beauty. It's also purity and
sensitivity. In a way, it's a reflection of my soul. Or rather... I'd like to see myself like that.
I'm certainly idealizing. I sit down in front of the canvas and enter my own world. I become Alice,
in Wonderland. I make her exist from a perfume. It's a reflection of my soul and the
I feel. Where does this girl come from? I'd love to know, and at the same time, I'm
afraid to find out. Perhaps an answer might prevent me from continuing to paint them".
Laurence Chouzenoux lets herself be guided by this quest for ideals and truth. A journey to the heart of
the intimate through each new portrait.
