From 17th to 26th March 2017
the Barrou Planquart Gallery is pleased to bring together several of its artists around the “VERSION STREET” exhibition for a presentation of recent or unpublished works, some of them specially produced for the event. The exhibition will also be the opportunity for the gallery to present for the first time the already recognized work of two newcomers, namely Jeremy Besset and César Piette.
Paintings, sculptures and mixed techniques will rub shoulders in the space of rue des Guillemites so that dialogues are initiated between artists and that, in the diversity of mediums, subjects and modes of artistic transposition, works with resonances confront each other. “Street”, imbued with the colors of urban culture. Because if Street Art is generally understood as the ephemeral art of the street and advertising, it is also, by its scope and the multitude of practices that its movement encompasses, a natural and constant source of inspiration for all a generation of artists who do not necessarily wish to limit themselves to the public space. Hence our use of the term “Street”, which is particularly rich in meaning, cross-checks and meanings.
Among the artists presented, Jo Di Bona and Jeremy Besset have already fully proven themselves in the field of Graff and successfully integrated into the world of Street Art. Stéphane Gautier, for his part, frequently imbues his work with urban references. Returning in a way to his first love, the artist has chosen to orient his latest creations in favor of a particularly significant work of writing in the world of Street. For François Bel, it is in particular a question of sublimating the alterability of the spray paint, a materiality that could not be more emblematic of street art. For their part, BVAL & ONESIKER are experimenting together with oil and aerosol on canvas. As for César Piette, his work reveals traces and graphic results that instigate something resolutely “Street”. Lovers of urban culture and free creation, each of them, through their style, their material or their reflexive approach, has appropriated the precepts of an open artistic current, in which imaginative writing – or rewriting – predominates, rather agreed, personal stories and myths or symbols of today’s society.
